BRECK + FOX is on a mission to solve climate change by helping forests thrive through reforestation, forest management, and stopping deforestation. To offset our carbon footprint, we have partnered with Pachama to fund verified carbon-reduction projects around the world.
Carbon Projects We Help Fund
BRECK + FOX currently funds three carbon projects that are Verified Carbon Standard Certified. These projects are monitored by Pachama using their machine learning, satellite imaging, and remote monitoring technology. Our contributions cover the project costs to increase reforestation, strengthen forest management, and reduce deforestation.
Fazenda Sao Nicolao (Amazon Rainforest)
Fazenda Sao Nicolao, a Brazilian reforestation project is located in the Amazon rainforest. The 1,900 ha project is the first Brazilian forestry project to be certified by Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). Much of the project area was heavily deforested in the late 1980s and 90s for both cattle ranching and coffee production. As such, the project has pledged extensive afforestation, reforestation, and revegetation activities to increase the forest’s carbon stock and recover its invaluable biodiversity. The project is replanting, using a mix of 54 native species, an area of forest almost half the size of the island of Manhattan, and working to preserve an area of degraded rainforest approximately three times as large.
Jaguar Amazon REDD (Amazon Rainforest)
TheJaguar Amazon REDD projectprotects a county-sized area of Amazon Rainforest in Madre de Dios, Peru. This is one of the most biologically diverse areas of the world, which is rapidly developing as a result of a trans-oceanic highway that connects this region with the Peruvian coast and western Brazil. The projects hopes to avoid deforestation by encouraging use of sustainable forest management practices throughout the project area including Brazil nut collection and processing, small harvests using localized silvicultural techniques, and forest fire prevention.
Los Bancos (Northern Mexico)
Established in 2018, theEjido Forestal Los Bancos project conserves communally-owned pine-oak forest in Northern Mexico and provides alternative income to the 44 ejidatarios who have traditionally tended the land. The project hopes to sequester 376,166 tons of CO2 within ten years by leaving 30% more residual timber from planned harvests than is required by Mexican law. The project also invests in conservation activities and forest fire prevention infrastructure.
Where the Dollars Go
At the end of the day, Pachama is a business. For every dollar BRECK + FOX invests with Pachama, 20 cents goes to Pachama and 80 cents goes directly to their projects.
